Professor Raul Cavalcante Maranhão, University of São Paulo, Brazil: he graduated in Medicine at the University of Brasilia (1973) and completed his Residency in Clinical Medicine and Endocrinology, at the Hospital das Clínicas, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo (1975) and Doctorate in Sciences (General Physiology) at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo ). He has a postdoctoral degree from the Biophysics Institute, Boston University Medical School (1982-1984) and was a Visiting Professor at the Dept. of Molecular Genetics of that University (1990). He has a PhD from FCF-USP (1987), in the area of Clinical Biochemistry. He is currently a Full Professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at USP and directs the Laboratory of Metabolism of Lipids of the Heart Institute (InCor) of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of USP. His main lines of research are related to the metabolism of lipoproteins and use of nanoparticles for drug delivery for the treatment of degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
